RECEPTION CLASS
Children join Reception class in the September of the school year in which they will be five, and become a year group who will move through the school together.
It's a busy happy class, building on and bringing together the knowledge, skills and attributes attained so far. Providing the learning experiences necessary for the children to achieve the Early Learning goals as assessed by the Foundation Stage Project at the end of Reception.
Our curriculum is based on the six key areas of learning and on the topic "Ourselves and our Environment". The children have opportunities to explore, find out, investigate, re-enforce and extend their learning in all developmental areas through a mixture of structured adult led and child initiated activities and play.
Our timetable includes dance, music and movement, use of a full range of large and small gym equipment and a Sports Day in the Summer term. The children enjoy full use of a interactive whiteboard in the classroom and have one session per week in the school computer suite.
In Reception each child has a 1:1 reading/word building session daily and develop emergent writing skills through writing their news, poems and stories.
We enjoy a huge range of craft activities and benefit from three music sessions per week with specialist music teachers. They are asked to join in after school classes - Tae kwon-do, yoga, ballet and board games. Our aim is for the children to develop into happy, confident youngsters who are motivated to learn and who participate fully in and are an integral part of the Knoll School.
